About
You may be wondering how Sonic Medicine was created. Perhaps you might even be curious to know who developed the concept and why they decided to share the secret of sonically induced relaxation with us. Well, many years ago a Psychologist on our staff became increasingly interested with how certain people were able to manage stress better compared to other individuals. He decided to study people that were able to handle stressful situations with ease to better understand their methods, uncover possible clues to their relaxation techniques and attempt to model them. By learning how people were able to reduce and manage stress, our team came to the conclusion that anyone could acquire these skills with some coaching and a few tools to facilitate the process.
One of the secrets that we discovered is that many people like you feel a calming effect while listening to certain forms of music. For most people the type of music was not as relevant as the rhythm, cadence and changes in tempo during the experience. In many ways, music can be thought of as a facilitator of change. Through subconscious channels, music has the ability to both encode our experience and modify the way we respond to certain stimuli. The Research Institute of Sonic Medicine in Switzerland was established in 1993 to investigate such possibilities.
After several years of development and testing, an effective musical model evolved. In 1997 using a state of the art digital recording studio near Zurich, Switzerland members of the Research Institute, together with a team from Relaxed Records recorded and produced a dosage of Sonic Medicine using professional musicians and engineers. After a few months of post production, the positive effects experienced in the lab were reproducible on portable audio systems and a decision was made to commercialize the project and license the technology to BoxOnline in order to offer a product to the general public.
Sonic Medicine uses proven PSL™ production and recording techniques developed at the Research Institute and is composed of three phases: Pacing, Synchronizing and Leading. Pacing is defined by a period of time during a Sonic Medicine session in which Beta brainwave activity is emulated with sound, rhythm and tempo. Listeners enter the Synchronizing phase when their biofeedback demonstrates a congruent response to the musical stimuli. During the Leading phase, the listener is lead into an alpha state of consciousness where they are able to influence their physiological response and achieve the desired effect.
Sonic Medicine evolved into the recording it is today after going through thousands of tests on individuals and groups over a period of more than 11 years. During this time, our founder, Dr. Box met a businessman named Gerry. Gerry was such a positive, motivating and calming influence on all that he came in contact with – it was almost magical. This fascinated Dr. B and it wasn’t long before he invited Gerry to participate in one of our studies. Gerry happens to be one of the most successful businessmen in the UK as well as one of the most calming individuals any of us has ever met. Rather than tell the story in third person, let’s turn this story over to Dr. B.
I met Gerry after he received Sonic Medicine Relaxed I from a close personal friend. Gerry buys EVERY stress relieving product he can get his hands on. He told me that he never listens to radio at home. Instead, he listens to and wakes up to stress relief audio tapes and CDs each day – even though he is ALREADY a very relaxed and calming influence on all people he comes into contact with each day. Gerry also told me, “Your Sonic Medicine products are the best ever produced by anyone and I should know, I own all of them!” He was so impressed at how they could help other people, he would buy 20 sets at a time and put them in the trunk of his Rolls Royce. Anytime he met someone whom he felt needed help he would give them a CD free of charge. He frequently called me to tell me of the “miraculous” results they had with the method and how Sonic Medicine had changed their lives. Over the years he bought over 2,000 CDs from us and to this day, Gerry says that he has never found anything more effective in helping people overcome stress than Sonic Medicine. It just works!
Actually, all you need to do is follow the basic instructions above and you will likely experience measurable, positive results within the first three sessions.
